Colbie Caillat To Perform At NASCAR Sprint Cup Awards Banquet

Daytona Beach, FL, United States (AHN) – This week’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards Ceremony and Champion’s Week just got a little glitzier by the addition of yet another Grammy-Award winning act.

Singer-songwriter Colbie Caillat will perform at the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards Ceremony Friday at Wynn Las Vegas, a performfance that will be broadcast live on SPEED at 9 p.m.

Caillat will join country music’s Rascal Flatts and comedic host Frank Caliendo in filling up the entertainment card.

Caillat has produced hit singles include “Bubbly,” “Realize,” and “Falling for You,” and will perform for the top-10 drivers in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series standings.

Caillat’s album “COCO’ debuted at No. 5 on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums chart in 2007, and her Grammy-nominated follow up, BREAKTHROUGH, debuted at No. 1.

The Awards Ceremony culminates NASCAR Champion’s Week, a postseason celebration of fan-friendly activities in Sin City.

Louis Vuitton Keeps Partnership With Americas Cup, New Zealand Stuns BMW Oracle

Dubai, Saudi Arabia (AHN) – Louis Vuitton strengthened its partnership with the Americas Cup as the leading fashion label made a commitment to support the America’s Cup Challenger Series in 2013, multiple source reported over the weekend.

America’s Cup Event Authority chairman Richard Worth announced Louis Vuitton as the principal sponsor for the 2013 Challengers Series.

Top sailing teams in the world are expected to compete at the 2013 Louis Vuitton Cup (Challengers Series), where the winner receives the Louis Vuitton trophy and a right to challenge BMW Oracle Racing in the America’s Cup Finals.

Louis Vuitton will also serve as the Official Timing for the America’s Cup World Series competitions.

Louis Vuitton Malletier Chairman and CEO Yves Carcelle considered the renewed partnership with the America’s Cup as another monumental moment for the company.

The French fashion house will celebrate its 30th anniversary of partnership with sailing’s most prestigious tournament in 2013.

The 34th Americas Cup is set to happen in 2013, with San Francisco and Rome-Fiumicino as possible sites of the event.

Meanwhile, Emirates Team New Zealand defeated BMW Oracle in two straight races Saturday to bag the Louis Vuitton Trophy in Dubai, Saudi Arabia.

New Zealand booked a final spot after downing Italy’s Mascalzone Latino, while BMW Oracle Racing outraced All4One in the semifinal round of the Dubai Regatta in the Arabian Gulf.

The Dubai Regatta marked the end of America’s Cup monohulls class (sloops) era, as sailing ushers the start of the multihull era of wing-sail catamarans.

Bryan Clauson Driving For Two USAC Titles On Turkey Night

Indianapolis, IN, United States (AHN) – For a time Bryan Clauson embarked on a budding NASCAR career with Earnhardt Ganassi Racing.

The 21-year-old will drive in the 70th Turkey Night Grand Prix in Irwindale, Calif., on Nov. 25 and can claim the 2010 USAC Mopar National Midget championship and the the 2010 USAC National Championship.

The Noblesville, Ind., native could become the first back-to-back race winner since Billy Boat won three in a row (1995-97).

Clauson leads Levi Jones of Olney, Ill., by five points entering the Turkey Night Grand Prix. The USAC National Drivers title carries a $40,000 first prize as well as a $300,000 Firestone Indy Lights scholarship program.

The winner of that the Indy Lights program is eligible to compete in all six oval-track Firestone Indy Lights races next season, including the Freedom 100 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in May.

This season Clauson has posted nine feature wins, two runners-up and seven thirds. Jones has a 2010 USAC-record 10 feature wins, six seconds, five thirds and four fourths.

Jimmie Johnson Rallies To Fifth Straight NASCAR Sprint Cup Title

Homestead, FL, United States (AHN) – Michael Schumacher won five consecutive Formula One titles and now Jimmie Johnson has an unprecedented fifth straight NASCAR Sprint Cup Series title.

Yes, for the fifth straight year, Johnson, a new father, is the champion of NASCAR’s premier racing series.

“I am just so proud to be in this position and so thankful to have my great race team and Hendrick Motorsports to give me such great race cars. Four was amazing. It’s pretty (darn) awesome,” said Johnson. “It’s just an amazing day for the team. We’ve got an awesome sport and I’m so proud to represent it.”

Down 15 points to Denny Hamlin heading into Sunday’s season-ending Ford 400, Johnson overcome an early slow pit stop, kept his nose clean to finish second at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Race-winner Carl Edwards closed the year with back-to-back wins and did his celebratory backflip off the car, but in the background it was Johnson doing burnouts after winning yet another title.

“This is unreal. This is a great way to finish the season,” said Edwards, who led a race-best 189 laps. “Congratulations to Jimmie Johnson, five straight championships. I think if we can go like this we might be able to have a start to have a run like this.”

Kevin Harvick, also in the hunt for the title, did nearly everything he could to win the title, finishing right behind Johnson in third.

“We went down swinging,” said Harvick, who had a speeding penalty on pit road early. “Those guys just outran us by a little bit. All in all, I’m just proud of all my guys. We did everything we wanted to today expcept win the race.”

Hamlin sustained minor damage during a spin on Lap 26 and had to rally for a finish of 14th, which left him second in the title race, behind Johnson and ahead of Harvick.

“Obviously, I’m disappointed,” said Hamlin, who finished with a season-best eight wins. “Our car was lightning-fast up until that wreck. When we hit the 16 (Greg Biffle) it just knocked the toe out and just wasn’t the same the rest of the day. We had a great year.”
